Lovin Life

Even though I haven’t written for a long time I haven’t stopped cooking & baking. Life has a way of being crazy but mine has been a good kind of crazy....visiting my kids & grandkids, trips, work, catering, time with friends and on it goes. Life is so amazing, you never know where it will take you.
Just a couple of weeks ago I flew to San Francisco to spend a few days with my youngest daughter and husband. It was a fun whirlwind trip as Katie had booked 2 days with a photographer friend to do a photo shoot for a cookbook we have been working on. It has been a dream of mine to make a book honouring Mom, so I had long ago started writing recipes down in my “special book” but then Katie said she would like to help make it become a reality. So for quite some time we have been doing FaceTime and calling with our ideas & recipes. We have decided it will be 4 generations so I’m very excited about that!
Anyway back to my trip - what a crazy fun time!!! I arrived on a Thursday afternoon, by the time my plane had been cancelled 2x while in the air and finally landed me in Oakland instead of San Francisco which was 40ish minutes from Katie, her car battery had died so she wasn’t able to pick me up, she sent an Uber and apparently I’m NOT supposed to sit in the front seat....who knew! Anyway, I had a VERY chatty driver who was very outspoken & missed a few exits but we finally made it - PHEW! Katie was waiting & we went straight to her vehicle which had just been started so we had to drive it for awhile, we ran errands, had lunch & picked up some groceries for our shoot, then back to Katie’s. Thursday night we mapped out our plan of what the next 3 days would look like, recipes to make, dishes and linens to use, all the props to make the photos really be our own....so exciting!
Friday up early, we baked, cooked, more planning, sprinkled in a little GGs (Gilmore Girls), boxed up dishes, checked and rechecked & to bed by 11ish. Saturday, up at 6 to bake some biscuits and cinnamon rolls, we needed to be to Heathers by 10am. We prepped and shot all day and we’re on our way home by 5:30 to do it all again! Saturday night more baking, cooking, to bed late & up early to bake and out the door for a 10am arrival. Full day of shooting- a little stressful as there was much to prepare in the kitchen and Katie & Heather were doing a great job of getting it all done in good time.
We had everything wrapped up by 4:30 and on our way home, tired but full...of love, a sense of accomplishment, and gratitude to Katie & Heather for their vision and skill for making this come to life. We still have a way to go but it will happen. This book will be a wonderful legacy, Mom was such a sweet soul whose love spoke volumes through her cooking and baking, to honour her in this way means the world to me.....until next time.
