Delicious Aroma
I love the fact that you can take a few simple ingredients and create something that smells and tastes so wonderful! Flour, milk, sugar, yeast are the main ones and then add more sugar, butter and cinnamon and there you have it....delicious homemade cinnamon rolls, top with a frosting or not and enjoy. On this sunny Sunday I am making them for my sister-in-law Kathy, she is very involved in
4-H and today is ‘tagging day’ and she likes to treat them. In a matter of a few hours I have made 2 dozen cinnamon rolls with a cream cheese frosting, they are all ready for pick up.....of course I had to test them, just a good thing I can’t get into the rest without it being noticed! So mix some up, get your hands dirty, fill your house with that delicious aroma and let me know how you do.....until next time
Cinnamon Rolls
1 pkg yeast or 2 1/4tsp dissolved in 1/4c warm water ( make sure your water is warm enough but not hot)
1/4c lukewarm milk
1/4c sugar
1/2tsp salt
1egg
1/4c shortening
2 1/4 to 2 1/2c flour
Stir together milk, sugar, salt, egg, shortening and 1 1/2c flour, then mix in foamy yeast, stir well and add enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead until smooth, about 5 minutes. Place in a lightly greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let rise about 11/2 hours. Your dough is now ready to be made into cinnamon rolls.
On a clean work surface roll dough out to a 15x9” rectangle, spread with about 1/4 cup softened butter, sprinkle on about 2/3c brown sugar and sprinkle on a liberal amount of cinnamon, after are they are called cinnamon buns! Starting at the side closest to you roll up into a fairly tight roll, pinch the dough together to seal. With a serrated knife cut roll into 12 slices and place evenly in a 9x13” greased pan. Cover and let rise about 45min, then bake in a preheated 375 oven for about 20-25 min.
Place pan on a metal rack to cool, I usually let them cool about 10-15 min and the frost. You can frost with whatever you fancy, cream cheese icing, plain vanilla drizzle or get creative.....then find a friend or not....
and enjoy!
